What’s involved in an appointment?

Knee Model Osteopath WellBeings Alderley Park

Our registered osteopaths provide high-quality specialist musculoskeletal care through comprehensive one-to-one assessment, diagnosis and treatment. Our unique approach addresses the health needs of the individual, attending to the root causes of issues together with any current symptoms.

We start by taking a full medical history so we can fully understand your body and your health needs. Then we move on to physical assessment which may include neurological testing (e.g. reflexes), blood pressure and other relevant special tests. After diagnosis, we will discuss our treatment plan with you. The patient experience is at the heart of what we do. Our priority is making you feel safe and comfortable.

Movement is an important part of the consultation so please wear clothes you feel comfortable in e.g. gym kit. Please avoid wearing jeans, belts, skirts or dresses. You will be given private space to change if required.

Babies and children

Our osteopaths treat children of all ages, from newborns to teenagers. It is common for babies to experience unsettled periods during their first months of life, leading to feeding difficulties, trapped wind, reflux, constipation, and physical tension or discomfort. As your child progresses through growth stages and becomes more active, they may encounter various physical stressors and strains that could potentially result in injury. Our osteopaths carefully monitor your child's growth milestones, promoting the healthy development of joints, muscles, ligaments, and the nervous system.

We help your body heal itself

Treatment involves a range of techniques to encourage and improve quality and range of movement and promote healing within the body.

This may include stretching, massage and physical manipulation to increase the mobility of joints, to relieve muscle tension, to enhance the blood and nerve supply to tissues, and to help your body’s own healing mechanisms.

We will also provide specialist advice on posture and exercise to aid recovery, promote health and prevent symptoms recurring.

After your treatment

Immediately after your treatment keep well hydrated, and avoid strenuous exercise. It is common to feel a little sore or stiff the day following treatment, especially if this is your first experience of hands-on therapy. This feeling, often similar to post-exercise soreness, typically lasts around 48 hours. Get in touch if you have any concerns.

  • To find a qualified osteopath in the UK, you can visit the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC) website. The GOsC is the regulatory body for osteopathy in the UK and maintains a register of all qualified osteopaths in the country.

  • Osteopaths commonly treat a variety of conditions, including back pain, neck pain, joint problems, including hip and knee pain, sports injuries, headaches, and conditions related to posture. They can also provide advice on lifestyle and exercises to promote better whole-body health.

  • No, you do not need a referral from a GP to see an osteopath in the UK. Osteopaths are primary healthcare practitioners, and you can make an appointment directly with them.
